The Civic Front is effectively a coalition of members of both the Radical Civic Union (UCR) and the Justicialist Party with some socialists. Most of those under the Civic Front banner are supporters of the Front for Victory of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Néstor Kirchner. At the legislative elections of 23 October 2005 the party won three of the 127 elected deputies (out of 257). The province’s governor, Gerardo Zamora (UCR) was elected on the Civic Front ticket at the same election. In 2007 the Front won all four positions for national deputy in the Province and two out of three Senators.

Initially, the pre-candidates Mauricio Macri, Daniel Scioli, and Sergio Massa had a triple tie in the polls for the 2015 presidential election. He won the presidential election against the Kirchnerite candidate Daniel Scioli in a ballotage. In lower-level posts, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta was elected as Macri’s replacement, keeping the City of Buenos Aires under coalition control. Alfredo Cornejo and Gerardo Morales became governors of Mendoza and Jujuy Provinces, respectively. María Eugenia Vidal defeated Aníbal Fernández and became the governor of the populous Buenos Aires Province, ending 28 years of Peronist control.

It was founded by Lisandro de la Torre (among others) at the Savoy Hotel in Buenos Aires on December 14, 1914. One of its founders was the academic Dr. Carlos Ibarguren. As of 2007, it was a member of the national Recrear electoral alliance led by Ricardo López Murphy and the Republican Proposal (PRO) alliance which backed López Murphy for the presidency in 2007. Regarding the Santa Fe province, it is part of an electoral alliance, called the Progressive, Civic and Social Front, as an opposition to the Peronist Front for Victory.

With 11,864,456 votes, Cristina Fernández also became the most voted person in the history of Argentine democracy, and the FPV achieved a first-time third consecutive mandate for a Peronist alliance. At the 2013 legislative election, the FPV and its allies marginally won the elections, maintaining its dominance over both chambers of the Congress.
